As a civic organization for young people, the Minnesota Jaycees are developing the next generation of leaders by providing opportunities to stand up and take initiative in their community.

We engage young people ages 18-40 through project management and social entrepreneurship that will make an impact in their communities and build leadership skills.

Jaycees around the state are responsible for organizing hundreds of community festivals, fundraisers for other nonprofits, and creating opportunities for community members to engage with one another.

As an all-volunteer grassroots organization, the Minnesota Jaycees offers the opportunity for a young person to find their own path in volunteering and service. While a grassroots organization, we also provide a connection to larger statewide, nationwide, and international impact. The Jaycees offers connection to mentoring, true ownership over work and connection to something larger than the individual-all things essential to the engagement of young adults in volunteering.

Green Sneakers Fundraiser

The Foley Area Jaycees are collecting pairs of sneakers/tennis shoes in any condition from January 1st, 2012 to December 10th, 2012. The Green Sneakers program provides other organizations with a uniquely effective and environmentally friendly fundraising opportunity that provides both local and global impact. The Green Sneakers program was developed out of a need identified by Crown Ministry Group, to help offset costs associated with various organizational development needs of non-profits. Through the use of the Green Sneakers program, charities are able to raise the funds they require to meet local needs, all while helping support needs on a global scale through the reuse of collected sneakers as affordable footwear to people in need around the world. This activity greatly improves economic conditions in developing nations and provides sustainable job opportunities where they otherwise would not exist. In cases of great humanitarian need, collected sneakers are distributed through reputable relief agencies with the appropriate mechanisms in place to effectively engage in this level of aide. The Green Sneakers program is a uniquely effective program that helps fund local charity but ultimately impacts people in need around the world. By making used tennis shoes available as affordable footwear in developing countries, Green Sneakers engages in enhancing economic development opportunities through job creation and sustainability both domestically and abroad. Potential destinations include central African nations, South American regions, and Haiti.

When you participate in a Green Sneakers fund raiser, you're doing more than helping a local charity, you're providing the opportunity for economic prosperity to some of the poorest people on the planet through reuse. It's no secret that athletic shoes require large amounts of petroleum in their creation. "With a few rare exceptions, such as bamboo-enhanced sock liners, our shoes are made exclusively from heavily processed crude oil. So with that in mind please recycle your tennis shoes. We will take tennis shoes in any condition. If you have any tennis that you would like to donate please contact Juanita @ 320-761-1003.
